The Washing Machine

We passed by the washing machine. Her washing had been sitting in there for over a day.
I had put my washing basket by the machine; a communiqué

“I am waiting too”
“Oh I’m sorry, I’ve been meaning to do it all day” She said;
I said: “Oh, not to worry, I’m in no rush” (I’ve run out of underwear)

I didn’t say.

The interaction struck me as odd,
A friendly uncertainty
A polite exchange.
